Nominating committee approves slate for president-elect

MINNEAPOLIS, August 28, 2008—The MMA's Nominating Leadership Development Committee (NLDC) met Wednesday night to review candidates for the position of president-elect, and approved a nominee to fill the opening created by the resignation this month by George Schoephoerster, M.D.

Following discussion, the nominating committee nominated for president-elect Noel R. Peterson, M.D., a urologist at the Olmsted Medical Clinic and a member of the Zumbro Valley Medical Society.

Dr. Peterson's name will be placed in nomination at the opening session of the House of Delegates at the Annual Meeting in St. Paul on September 17, and will appear on the ballet for election as president on Thursday, September 18.

Dr. Peterson has been involved with the MMA in many ways, as treasurer, as a delegate to the House of Delegates, as a MEDPAC member, as a reference committee member, as a member of both the MMA Professionalism Work Group and Veterans Health Care Task Force, and as a member of the Board of Trustees.

The election of all other officers, MMA trustees, and AMA delegates for 2008-2009 will take place Friday morning, September 19, at the Annual Meeting.

All nominations remain open up until the time of election.
