CME topics set for Annual Meeting—drop-ins welcome

MINNEAPOLIS, August 7, 2008—The MMA has announced the topics and presenters for three CME* mini-courses to be offered on Thursday, September 18 as part of the Annual Meeting in St. Paul.

Sessions 1 and 3:    2–3:15 p.m.  and  3:30–4:45 p.m.

"How to Manage/Lead Through Conflict"

T. Michael Tedford, M.D., Cascade Partners, Minneapolis
Learn to identify competing values in groups and use the concept of “self and role” to solve difficult problems.

Session 2:   2–3:15 p.m.

"Transforming Primary Care: Developing Health Care Homes in Minnesota"

Jeff Schiff, M.D., medical director, Minnesota Health Care Programs, St. Paul
Learn about the medical home model, the rationale for it, the impact of recent legislation, and the processes for certification, developing rate structures, and quality outcomes measures.

Session 4:   3:30–4:45 p.m.

"Motivational Interviewing: Facilitating Patient Behavior Change"

Jennifer S. Moran, LLP, counselor, Mayo Clinic
Learn how to use reflective listening and open-minded questioning to help patients change their behavior.

The Minnesota Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
