Anoka fast food worker may have TB
MINNEAPOLIS, March 17, 2008—An Anoka County McDonald's employee may have an active form of tuberculosis. The Minnesota Department of Health is screening coworkers for signs of infection.
The worker in question is ill, and symptoms are congruent with a diagnosis of tuberculosis.
Anoka County is identifying people who were in close contact with the worker over extended periods of time. The county also is beginning to screen them with a skin test.
The public should not be alarmed, and customers and food at the restaurant are not at risk, Susan Carolan, manager of disease prevention and control for Anoka County, told the Pioneer Press. The MDH notified county officials of the case Feb. 29.
Last year in Anoka County, there were 10 reported cases of TB. There have been two reported cases this year.
