Administrative Simplification. Standardize administrative processes to reduce costs and duplication.

Alcohol Abuse. Increase the tax on beer, wine and spirits and use funds for prevention, treatment and public safety services related to alcohol abuse.

Cross-Cultural Health. Eliminate racial, ethnic, and cultural health disparities in Minnesota.

Driver Safety. Make failure to wear a seatbelt a primary offense, require that all children aged 4 - 8 be in booster seats while riding in a vehicle, forbid drivers to use phones except in the case of an emergency.

Health Care Access Fund. Create an oversight committee to make sure money is used to provide access to care for low-income Minnesotans, not to balance the state budget.

Health Care Reform. Require all Minnesotans to have insurance, require health plans to offer insurance to all applicants, create medical home pilot projects, strengthen public health.

Interpreter Services. Require all health plans to reimburse providers or pay medical interpreters directly and establish a state registry of medical interpreters.

Legal Advocacy. Advocate for MMA Members in Minnesota courts and administrative agencies. Monitor and comment on the work of the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.

Medical Liability. Cap non-economic damages, which cover pain and suffering, mental anguish and physical impairment, at $250,000.

Medicare. Find a long-term solution to Medicare’s flawed physician payment system to preserve access to health care for seniors.

Obesity. Prevent and treat obesity through policy, legislation, and resources and information for physicians and their patients.

Quality and Safety. Assist physicians in their ongoing efforts to improve the quality and safety of health care for their patients.

Safety Net Programs. Provide adequate payment for medical services and avoid cuts in eligibility that would leave people without health insurance.

Scope of Practice. Ensure that medical services be performed by health care providers who have the appropriate training and skills to provide safe, effective care.

Sick Tax. Repeal the 2 percent tax on medical services.

Tobacco. Require that all workplaces including bars and restaurants be smoke-free to protect Minnesotans from disease caused by secondhand smoke.
