AMA backgrounder on Medicare reform bill

Share your opinion on the Medicare bill with the MMA.

MINNEAPOLIS, July 21, 2008—The American Medical Association has issued an Advocacy Update explaining the details of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act, which became law over the President’s veto last week.

In addition to halting the planned 10.6 percent reduction in Medicare reimbursements scheduled for July 1, the bill has important ramifications in many areas, including primary care, mental health parity, Geographic Practice Cost Index (GPCI) adjustments, quality data reporting, electronic prescribing, and beneficiary enhancements.
