The Minnesota Medical Association-Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS) is a special section of the Minnesota Medical Association for organized medical staff physicians. It was formerly known as the Hospital Medical Staff Section.
The purpose of the OMSS is to:
Provide a forum where physicians can address organized medical staff issues and such issues as fairness and due process of rights, continuous quality improvement; peer review; resource/utilization management, ethics,and leadership.
Provide information unique to the medical staff relationship
Provide advocacy for physicians in the medical staff relationship with the organizational governing board.
Membership is available to any group of physicians who share a common contracting relationship with a PPO or HMO, a common employer, or common membership in a new health care delivery system.
Each organized medical staff may designate one physician who is an MMA member to serve as its voting representative to the OMSS business meetings. Any MMA member may attend business meetings as a non-voting member.
The purpose of the OMSS business meetings is to:
- Review reports.
- Consider and vote upon matters that come before the meeting.
- Adopt resolutions for submission to the MMA House of Delegates
- Consider resolutions for submission to the AMA OMSS Assembly.
- Elect, at the business meeting prior to the Annual Meeting of the MMA House of Delegates, members of the Governing Council \
- Consider resolutions before the MMA House of Delegates.
Representatives of organized medical staffs who represent their organization at the American Medical Association (AMA) OMSS Assembly must be AMA members.
The Governing Council of the OMSS consists of seven voting members:
- Chairperson: Ken Crabb, M.D.
- Vice-chairperson
- OMSS delegate and alternate to the MMA House of Delegates.
