The Minority and Cross-Cultural Affairs Committee identifies and examines problems encountered by minority citizens in accessing the health care system and circumstances in lifestyle or the environment that prevent minority citizens from achieving a high level of health care.
The committee develops mechanisms for the MMA to work with other groups to improve the lifestyle of minority citizens.
It also examines ways to interest minority citizens in careers in health care and develops ways to assist them in these endeavors.
For the purposes of the Minnesota Medical Association, minority is defined as: African Americans/African, Native Americans (includes Eskimos), Asian/Pacific Islanders, Hispanics/Latinos, and other racial and ethnic minority groups.
The Minority and Cross-Cultural Affairs Committee meets quarterly.
2010 meeting dates (the first Wednesday of the month): February 3, May 5 , August 4, and November 3.
The committee is committed to mentoring the next generation of physicians coming from minority communities. Click here for more information.
