The Committee on Legislation helps the MMA Board of Trustees set policy on all health related legislative matters. The committee reviews legislation and makes recommendations about whether to support, oppose or amend legislation. It also helps draft and introduce MMA sponsored legislation, and provides input on legislative testimony and position papers. Committee members testify at legislative committee hearings when indicated.
The committee also coordinates, when possible, MMA positions and testimony with those of other health related professional organizations and acts as a liaison to state departments, agencies, and elected officials on matters related to health legislation.
Committee members participate in issue seminars and legislative workshops, help select physician legislative contacts and encourage liaisons between them and their assigned legislators.
The Committee on Legislation meets approximately four to six times per year.
